Build a Floating Shelf

Build a Floating Shelf

1 hour

A clean, simple shelf that looks like it's floating. Great for books, plants, or that jar of spare nails.

Materials

  • 1×6 pine board (4ft) $8
  • Floating shelf brackets (2-pack) $10
  • Wall anchors $3
  • Wood stain or paint $6

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the board to length and sand smooth.

  2. 2

Stain or paint and let it dry completely.

  3. 3

Mark bracket positions on the wall with a level.

  4. 4

Drill pilot holes, insert anchors, and mount brackets.

  5. 5

Slide the shelf onto the brackets.

Tip

Use a stud finder if you can. If you're anchoring into drywall alone, don't overload it.
